In 2001, the University of Victoria (UVic) announced that Mr. Michael Williams had left his estate to the University. Among the wishes expressed in his will was that UVic make the Williams’ extensive art collection available for public viewing, free of charge, at a downtown location. Because of Mr. Williams’ generous gift, The Legacy Art Gallery and Café was established. The Gallery is located downtown at 630 Yates St. and features art from both Mr. Williams’ collection and the UVic art collection. Unique to The Gallery is a café featuring various beverages, light meals, and snacks, as well as a gift shop.
The gift shop is undergoing an exciting transformation and our philosophy is to showcase quality, contemporary, Island made works of art. From a small memento to stylish corporate gifts, we want to offer something for every occasion. Our philosophy is to showcase quality Island made art pieces. Items of interest include:
- small prints
- paintings
- photographs
- Aboriginal art
- pottery
- garden art
- sculpture
- jewelry
- home décor (including soaps and candles)
- journals and sketch books
- your unique works of art
The sale price must be under $250 and preferably under $60. Sales are based on a 60/40 consignment split between the artist and the Legacy Art Gallery respectively.
